What does it mean that prophecy is the 'more sure word' in 2 Peter 1:19?

In 2 Peter 1:19, the 'more sure word' means prophesied Scripture confirms Christ's divine glory and identity even more certainly than the Mount of Transfiguration experience. Though the heavenly voice and transfiguration were thrilling and revealing, Peter declares prophecy proves those truths more fully, making it the sure foundation for teaching prophecy.

Les explains that Peter is referring back to the Mount of Transfiguration, where Peter, James, and John heard the voice from heaven declare, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." That experience was beyond human comprehension, as Christ was transfigured and made glorious right before them. Yet in verse 19 Peter says, "We have also a more sure word of prophecy." Les teaches that Peter is saying: as exciting, thrilling, and revealing as the Mount of Transfiguration was, we have something that proves all these things even more than that—and that something is prophecy. This is why Les spends so much time teaching prophecy, not simply because it is sensational or exciting, but because these verses of Scripture give the basis for it.
