Are people in Western civilizations living in a utopia today?
No, people in Western civilizations are not living in a utopia. Although Western civilizations have enjoyed a semblance of human rights since the Magna Charta, many still live in a downtrodden state, groveling in poverty and lacking this world's goods.
Les explains that throughout human history, unless one lived among the elite ruling class, life was just existence under abject poverty, slavery, and oppression. It was not until the Magna Charta in about the 14th century that human rights were delineated. Since then, Western civilizations have had a semblance of human rights. But even among them, many people are still downtrodden. Les says, "We're not in any utopia." While the nation is blessed, many still grovel in poverty and have none of this world's goods. Daniel sees these empires as bestial in their makeup.
