Les Feldick Bible Study

Where do the living waters that flow from Jerusalem go in the prophecy?

In the prophecy, living waters flow out from Jerusalem, with half going toward the former sea, the Mediterranean, and half toward the hinder sea, the Dead Sea, in summer and winter. The river also flows from Jerusalem’s throne room to the Mediterranean and Dead Sea, possibly extending to the Persian Gulf.

Les teaches that this prophecy accompanies Christ’s return to the Mount of Olives, the land of Israel, and Jerusalem. The living waters go out from Jerusalem, half to the former sea (the Mediterranean) and half to the hinder sea (the Dead Sea), in summer and winter. He also references Ezekiel, where a river flows from the throne room in Jerusalem back to the Mediterranean and down to the Dead Sea, and he thinks it may even go out to the Persian Gulf. Ezekiel says the Dead Sea will have every species of fish that the Mediterranean has now; it will no longer be a saltwater sea but living water. Les notes that today nothing can live in the Dead Sea, but the coming day will change it.

Zechariah 14:8

And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
