What was Israel's next step after receiving the promised fulfillment?
After Israel received spiritual, political, and physical fulfillment, their next step was to give light to the Gentiles sitting in darkness and the shadow of death. They were to take the light of the world out to the Gentiles; this was their lot.
Les explains that Israel's promised fulfillment included spiritual salvation as well as political and physical restoration. After they came to that place of fulfillment, their next step was to give light to the Gentiles sitting in darkness and the shadow of death. Les emphasizes that this was to be Israel's lot: they now possessed the light of the world and were going to take it out to the Gentiles. He then moves to Acts chapter 1 to show how all of this moves right through the Old Testament, with the Messiah coming, being rejected, crucified, and ascending.
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
