What could Israel have done for the Gentiles according to God's program?
According to God's program, Israel could have evangelized the Gentiles and brought them to a knowledge of Jehovah. They could have been a nation and a kingdom of priests, serving as a light to the Gentiles and God's salvation to the end of the earth, though hypothetically they did not.
Les explains that God had not lost sight of the Gentile river of humanity. His whole program was laid out so Israel could have evangelized those Gentiles and brought them to a knowledge of Jehovah, becoming a nation and a kingdom of priests. In that passage, verse 6 says God would also give Israel as a light to the Gentiles and salvation to the end of the earth. Les says "could have" because they did not, but hypothetically it could have happened. Isaiah 59:20 adds that the Redeemer comes to Zion, Jerusalem, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, requiring Israel's spiritual climate to be 100 percent believers.
And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.
