What comes right after the tribulation in the prophecy?
Immediately after the tribulation, God sets His King on the holy hill of Zion, and the Messiah is given the heathen for His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession, which is the kingdom, not the church or the age of grace.
Les explains that the tribulation is the wrath and sore displeasure God speaks to them in, as shown in the prophecy. It could have followed right on the heels of the ascension so Christ could have returned and set up His kingdom. Immediately after the tribulation, verse 6 says, "Yet have I set my king on the holy hill of Zion." Then in verse 8, God speaks to the Messiah: "Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." That is the kingdom, not the church, not the age of grace. The kingdom could have immediately followed all these things.
