What comes immediately after the tribulation according to Psalm 2:6?

Following the period of divine wrath and sore displeasure, Psalm 2:6 declares, “Yet have I set my king on the holy hill of Zion.” That signifies the kingdom, not the church or age of grace, which could have immediately followed the Messiah’s ascension.

Les explains that when Israel and the Gentiles rejected and crucified the Messiah, God sits in heaven and laughs, inviting the Son back to His right hand. Verse 5 says God will speak to them in wrath and vex them in His sore displeasure; Les identifies that as the tribulation. It could have followed right on the heels of the ascension, so Christ could have returned and set up His kingdom. Then verse 6 says that immediately after the tribulation of the vexation and sore displeasure, God has set His king on the holy hill of Zion. Les connects this with verse 8, where God tells the Messiah to ask, and He will give the heathen or Gentiles for His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession. Les says that is the kingdom, not the church or the age of grace, and it could have immediately followed all these things.

Psalms 2:5
