Why does God expect believers to spend 10–20 minutes a day in prayer?
God expects believers to spend 10–20 minutes daily in prayer because He wants that time and desires to communicate with them. Times of persecution make prayer feel natural, but ease can convince people they have no need, yet God still expects every believer to keep this habit.
Les explains that Paul could tell persecuted Thessalonians to “rejoice evermore” and “pray without ceasing,” and under persecution that kind of prayer is easier. In America, however, people have it so good that they think they have no need to get on their knees. Les says God expects every believer to spend that 10, 15, or 20 minutes a day in prayer, and even 30 minutes; He wants it and wants to communicate. Such a prayer time takes habit, and some believers already spend 30 minutes every morning in the throne room. He recalls the old family altar, where a father read Scripture and led a circle of prayer before the school bus, and notes that God has not changed and His promises are the same.
Pray without ceasing.
