Les Feldick Bible Study

What materials made up the head, chest, belly, legs, and feet of Nebuchadnezzar's dream image in Daniel 2?

The dream image had a head of fine gold, chest and arms of silver, a belly of brass, two legs of iron, and feet of a mixture, part iron and part clay. The materials move from the head downward, ending with the feet mingled of iron and clay.

Les teaches that in Daniel chapter 2 Daniel recovers and interprets Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a great, humongous image whose brightness was excellent and whose form was terrible and frightening. As Daniel describes it, the head was of fine gold; the breast or chest area and the arms were of silver; the belly or abdomen area was of brass; the two legs, like a human's, were of iron; and the feet were a mixture, part iron and part clay. Les notes the descending sequence of materials and, rather than drawing the image himself, puts the words up in their order so each listener can picture it — perhaps, he jokes, like a big robot out of Star Wars or a comic strip.
