Why was Israel the only ancient nation that knew the one true God?
Israel alone knew the one true God because God called Abraham and gave him knowledge of Jehovah, which was then transmitted through Isaac, Jacob, and the twelve tribes. Other ancient nations had only pagan gods—mythological figures, animals, the sun, or the moon—so this revelation distinguished Israel.
Les teaches that until God called Abraham, every nation knew only false gods; the true God was not known among them. With the call of Abraham, Abraham received a knowledge of Jehovah, and that knowledge was passed on through Isaac and Jacob and the twelve tribes. Therefore Israel alone, during the period of the ancients, had a knowledge of the one true God. All the rest had nothing but their pagan gods, which were usually female goddesses or gods of mythology, or frogs, animals, the sun, or the moon. Daniel later comes back to this pagan king in all his splendor and says there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, showing that true prophecy centers on the nation of Israel.
