How did the knowledge of the one true God get preserved in ancient Israel?

The knowledge of the one true God was preserved through Abraham, who came to know Jehovah. That knowledge was passed down through Isaac, Jacob, and the twelve tribes. Consequently, Israel alone, during the period of the ancients, retained knowledge of the one true God, while all other nations followed pagan gods.

Les explains that before Abraham, people knew only false gods—pagan deities, mythology, frogs, animals, or the sun and moon. God called Abraham, giving him knowledge of Jehovah, which was then passed on through Isaac, Jacob, and the twelve tribes. Thus Israel alone, during the period of the ancients, had a knowledge of the one true God, while all the rest had nothing but pagan gods. Les also notes Daniel standing before a pagan king and declaring that there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets and makes known what shall be in the latter days. He stresses that all true prophecy centers on Israel, usually within a time frame, unlike the church age, for which there is no prophecy.
