How completely did God hold back the Jordan when Israel crossed?

God supernaturally stopped the Jordan completely: the waters coming from above were cut off and stood in a heap, piling up even at flood stage when the river overflowed all its banks. The priests stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all Israel crossed over on dry ground.

Les teaches that this was a supernatural, miraculous event: God simply stopped the waters of the Jordan from flowing. The scriptural account says the waters coming down from above were cut off and stood in a heap, rising up, even though the Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest—the barley harvest in early spring, March or April. When the priests’ feet dipped in the brim of the water, the priests bearing the ark stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan. That is how completely God held back the waters, even at flood stage. Israel walked over on dry ground, as they had come out of Egypt, until all the people were passed over.

Joshua 3:17

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
