What land did God promise to Joshua and Israel after Moses died?

After Moses died, God told Joshua to lead Israel across the Jordan into the land He was giving them. The promised extent ran from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river Euphrates, every place their foot would tread. God had already deeded this land to Abraham, though Israel never fully occupied it.

Les explains that after Moses’ death, the Lord spoke to Joshua, son of Nun, and commanded him to arise and go over Jordan with all the people to the land God was giving the children of Israel. Every place the sole of their foot would tread was given to them, from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river Euphrates. Les points back to Genesis 15, noting God first said it to Abraham and deeded the land. Israel never occupied all of it, only venturing a little beyond Galilee and the Jordan under David and Solomon. Today the land of Israel is strictly between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean, from a little south of Jerusalem to the southern border of Lebanon, but the deeded extent was greater.
