What did God promise the Israelites about the Promised Land?
God promised the Israelites that He would have everything ready for them in the Promised Land, drive out their enemies, and they would only need to occupy it. He commanded them to go up and possess it, telling them not to fear or be discouraged.
Les explains that God had told the Israelites He would have everything ready for them. He would drive out their enemies, and all they had to do was occupy the land. In verse 21, God said, 'Go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee, Fear not, neither be discouraged.' Les points out that sending in the twelve spies was not God's idea; it was a weakness of the flesh. Israel said they didn't know and asked to send spies, and God in His goodness permitted it, though it was not His intention. They were taking things out of God's hands and putting them into the hands of mere mortals.
