What did God command Moses to do at the rock in Horeb?
God commanded Moses to take the rod with which he had struck the river and strike the rock in Horeb one time. God would stand before him on the rock, and water would come out of it so the people could drink.
Les explains that the Lord told Moses to go before the people, take the elders of Israel, and take the rod with which he had smitten the river. God said He would stand before Moses upon the rock in Horeb, and Moses was to smite the rock with his rod one time. Out of the rock would come water so the people could drink, and Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. Les also connects any reference to the rock with 1 Corinthians 10, where Paul writes about the fathers under the cloud and passing through the sea.
