Where did the children of Israel pitch their camp relative to the Jordan River?

The children of Israel set forward and pitched in the plains of Moab, on the east side of Jericho. That places their camp east of the Jordan River, opposite Jericho, in the territory of Moab, where Balak son of Zippor saw what Israel had done to the Amorites.

Les explains that chapter 22, verse 1 records the children of Israel setting forward and pitching in the plains of Moab, on this side, that is, on the east side of Jericho. They were east of the river Jordan. Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. Although they had no radio, television, telephone, or telegraph, word of mouth spread through camel caravans and gossip, so Moab had heard. Balak was sore afraid because the people were many.

Numbers 22:1
