Why did Moses and Aaron have such easy access to the king of Egypt?
The Egyptian Pharaoh was open to people coming into his presence. Unlike Babylonian kings, who would not allow anyone before them except in their own court, Egypt's king permitted direct access. Therefore Moses and Aaron encountered no obstruction when they came before Pharaoh to deliver God's message.
Les explains that he once wondered how Moses and Aaron had such access to Egypt's king. He notes that had this been Babylon, they could never have done it, because Babylonian kings would not allow someone to come before them except in their own court. But the Egyptians did: the Egyptian Pharaoh was open to people coming into his presence. Consequently, Moses and Aaron had no obstruction when they wanted to come before Pharaoh; they came right into his presence. This explains why the Lord could tell Moses to rise early, stand before Pharaoh by the water, and deliver the message, “Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me.”
