Why can God give the land of Israel as a heritage?

God can give the land of Israel as a heritage because He is the Lord, the Creator, and the Sovereign God. The promise rests on His covenant oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and He has authority to bring Israel into the land He swore to give them.

Les explains that God's promise to Abraham included making a nation of people, giving them a geographical area of land, and one day coming to be their king. That was all in the Abrahamic covenant. God says He will bring Israel into the land concerning which He swore to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. Those three names appear throughout the Bible, well into the New Testament and the book of Acts, and everything is based upon that promise God gave to those three men. He says He will give it to them for a heritage, and the reason He can do it is that He is the Lord, the Creator, and the Sovereign God. Moses spoke this to the children of Israel, but they did not hearken because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage.

Exodus 6:8

And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.
