Why did God choose Israel as a nation?

God chose Israel to be the vehicle through which He would communicate and bring the plan of redemption to the whole human race. He picked Abraham out of Ur, promised to make a great nation, give them a land, and one day come to be their king and government.

Les explains that in Genesis 12 God does something totally different: out of the one race of Adam, He picks one man, Abraham, down in Ur of the Chaldeans. Abraham was originally a Syrian, though he became the father of the Jewish people, and Sarai was also a Syrian. God promised Abraham that out of him He would bring about a nation totally different from any other race on earth, and they would be the vehicle through which God would communicate and bring about the whole plan of redemption to the whole human race through Israel. Les also notes that God gave Abraham the Abrahamic covenant, promising to make of him a great nation, to put them in a geographical area of land, and that one day He would come and be their king and government.
