Why are good people who think they are good enough lost?

Good people who think they are good enough are lost because all have sinned and come short of God's glory. Salvation is not earned by human goodness or works; it comes only by trusting what God has done. No one can do anything to get into heaven. They must recognize they are sinners, sons of Adam.

Les teaches that the first step of faith on the road to salvation is realizing we are sinners. Many people think they are good enough, and there are truly good people—better than he could ever hope to be—but they will be lost. Why? Because they have not trusted what God has done. The only thing believers can claim is not what they do to get to heaven; nothing can be done to get us into heaven. We must rest on the fact that we are sinners, we have fallen short, and we are sons of Adam. Then, even though God condemns us as already sinners, God has also declared that we can be justified—freely, with no strings attached.
