What did God covenant to give to the nation of Israel?
God established His covenant to give the children of the covenant, the children of Abraham, the nation of Israel, the land of Canaan—the land of their pilgrimage wherein they were strangers. He heard their groaning in Egyptian bondage and remembered that covenant, never forgetting His promises to Abraham and Isaac.
Les teaches that Exodus 6:4 records God saying He established His covenant to give the children of the covenant—the children of Abraham, the nation of Israel—the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage wherein they were strangers. God also heard the groaning of the children of Israel in Egyptian bondage and remembered His covenant; He will never forget it. Les emphasizes that God is not through with the Jew; His covenants with Abraham and Isaac remain uppermost with regard to the nation of Israel. In verse 6 God says, “I am” Jehovah; He will bring Israel out from under Egyptian burdens, rid them of bondage, and redeem them—buy them back and pay the price to set them free from Egypt’s bondage. Paul and other Scripture writers likewise speak of our redemption.
And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
