What did Moses refuse to be called when he grew up?
Hebrews 11:24 states that by faith, when Moses came to years, he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. This means he rejected the royal identity and title associated with the Egyptian princess. Scripture records this refusal as an act of faith, marking a decisive break from his upbringing in Pharaoh's household.
Les emphasizes that we must use Scripture for all these things, not human opinion, saying he doesn't want anyone to remember what he thinks. He points to Hebrews 11:23-24, where Moses' parents hid him three months because they saw he was a proper child and were not afraid of the king's commandment. Then verse 24 says, 'By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter.' Les notes this is in the great faith chapter and that he will be using Hebrews 11 quite a bit in the next few lessons. In the earlier verses, Pharaoh's daughter named the child Moses because she drew him out of the water, and he became her son. Les also directs attention to Acts chapter 7 for further confirmation.
