Les Feldick Bible Study

Why was Moses insecure when God called him?

Moses was insecure because he had spent forty years on the backside of the desert herding sheep, with almost no contact with public or populated areas. That isolation left him timid and feeling incapable of confronting Pharaoh and leading Israel out of bondage.

Les explains that Moses had been forty years on the backside of the desert herding sheep, having almost no contact with public or populated areas. As a result, he had become insecure and timid. In Exodus chapter 4, verse 10, Moses is still claiming he cannot do it, even though God had commissioned him to confront Pharaoh and bring Israel out of bondage. The first difficulty he faced was overcoming his own timidity.
