Les Feldick Bible Study

Through whom would the Messiah descend?

The Messiah would descend through Jacob, for the promised seed would come through him, identified as the Messiah of Israel and the seed of the woman of Genesis 3:15. The birthright and blessing passed to Jacob rather than Esau, continuing the covenant line.

Les explains that God called Abram out of idolatry and made a covenant with him, which passed to Isaac. Isaac had two sons, Jacob and Esau, but Esau was destitute of faith, so Jacob received the birthright and blessing. Les teaches that it is through Jacob that the seed would come—the Messiah of Israel, the seed of the woman of Genesis 3:15. Jacob later had twelve sons, and their families ended up in Egypt because of Joseph and the famine.

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
