How much did Jacob mourn over Joseph's supposed death?

Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourned for his son many days. He believed Joseph had been devoured by an evil beast and rent in pieces, so his sorrow was intense and prolonged. The account describes tremendous mourning over the supposed death of Joseph.

Les explains that Jacob went through tremendous mourning for the loss of his son Joseph. After the brothers dipped the coat of many colors in blood and brought it to their father, Jacob recognized it and said, 'It is my son's coat. An evil beast hath devoured him. Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.' Jacob then rent his clothes, put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
