Les Feldick Bible Study

What is faith in simple terms?

Faith is taking God at His Word: God said it, we believe it, and He recognizes it. It comes by hearing, not by works, as we believe Christ died and rose from the dead. No work is involved in hearing; this is how faith comes.

Les teaches that faith is simply taking God at His Word. God said it, we believe it, and God recognizes it; on that basis He moves in and does everything that needs to be done. Faith comes by hearing, not by works of the Law, and no work is involved in hearing. We contemplate that Christ died and rose from the dead, and we believe it; by believing, we are listening to the Word of God. Les acknowledges this is simplification, and he notes that repetition is the mother of learning, so these truths must be heard over and over. He also contrasts this with the flesh, which refers to the Law—weak and beggarly—and asks whether the Spirit was received by the works of the Law or by the hearing of faith.
