Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les teach that Paul went to Mount Sinai when Galatians says Arabia?

Galatians 4:25 places Mount Sinai in Arabia, so Galatians 1:17's statement that Paul went into Arabia is identified with Mount Sinai. God sovereignly sent Paul into the desert of Arabia to Sinai, where the doctrines of grace were given to him.

Les teaches that Galatians 1:17 says Paul did not go up to Jerusalem but went into Arabia. Because Galatians 4:25 later identifies Mount Sinai as being in Arabia, Les connects the two and concludes that God sovereignly drove Paul out of Damascus and sent him down into the desert of Sinai, or the desert of Arabia, to Mount Sinai. Les makes the analogy that just as God gave the law to Moses, who took it down the mountain to Israel, so God gave Paul at Sinai the doctrines of grace. Paul says in Ephesians that Gentiles have what they have because Paul gave it to them. Les also notes Paul apparently spent almost three years at Mount Sinai before going up to Jerusalem to see Peter for fifteen days; he saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother, who was not one of the twelve, so the only one of the twelve he saw was Peter.

Galatians 4:25
