What does John 1:1 teach about the Trinity at the beginning of creation?

John 1:1 reveals that the Word was with God and was God, so the triune Godhead was complete and in absolute consensus at the beginning. All things were made by Him, the Word, who is God the Son, the communicator of creation.

Les explains that Jesus was just as much God as the Father or God the Spirit. In John 1:1, the Word was with God and was God, and the same was in the beginning with God. Les says this means the triune Godhead was complete and in absolute consensus about what they would do. Verse 3 says all things were made by Him—by the Word. Les is a stickler for grammar because language communicates, and 'Word' implies communication. There had to be a person of the Godhead to communicate with whatever creation was called out of. Les personally thinks it was God Himself; God talks to Himself, much like a person muttering in the kitchen or like Martin Luther concluding that Christ's cross statements were God speaking to God. The Word was the communicator who spoke the power of creation. In Hebrews, Les will show it is the Word, the Son of God, Christ, who has spoken—the very person of the Godhead who is the communicator, God the Son.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Why does John 1:1 say 'in the beginning' rather than giving a date?

When John opens his Gospel, he deliberately uses the exact phrase 'in the beginning' that Moses used, not a date like '20 million years ago' or '10,000 years ago.'
