What does John 1:1 teach about the unity of the Trinity in creation?

John 1:1 presents the Word as both with God and being God, showing the triune Godhead complete and in absolute consensus. Creation was made by Him—the Word, God the Son—who spoke the power of creation. The Father, Son, and Spirit were unified in purpose, and the Word communicated God's creative command.

Les explains that John 1:1 establishes the Word was with God and was God, so the triune Godhead was complete and in absolute consensus about what they would do. Verse 3 then says all things were made by Him—by the Word. Les emphasizes that the Word is the person of the Godhead who communicates, God the Son, who spoke the power of creation. He also notes that Jesus was just as much God as God the Father or God the Spirit, and that the Son is the communicator of the Godhead.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Why does John 1:1 say 'in the beginning' rather than giving a date?

When John opens his Gospel, he deliberately uses the exact phrase 'in the beginning' that Moses used, not a date like '20 million years ago' or '10,000 years ago.'
