What is the first thing the Holy Spirit convinces us of?
The Holy Spirit's first work is to convince a person that they are a sinner. He makes us aware that everyone born into the human race has sinned and come short of the glory of God, as Romans 3:23 states. Believing this is the first step of faith.

Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Les calls this the first step of faith: agreeing with what God says about me, admitting I am not as good as I think I am, and that I cannot please God with my works because I am a sinner. When we believe that, the doors begin to open, and our mind and whole makeup begin to realize God is doing something with us. We realize we are sinners, sons of Adam, and there is nothing we can do.
