How is the new man created in a believer?
The new man is created by God’s work in the believer through the power of the Holy Spirit, as the old man is put off and the spirit of the mind is renewed. This new creation is created in righteousness and true holiness, not the old Adam.
Les teaches from Ephesians 4:22-24 that the believer is to put off the former manner of living, the old man, which is corrupt according to deceitful lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of the mind. Then the believer puts on the new man, which is after God. Les explains that when God moves in by the power of the Holy Spirit, there is a creation, a new created part, created in righteousness and true holiness. This new man is not the old Adam, and Paul can then instruct believers about the change in their living, putting aside former things. The context also connects this to Romans, where the old Adam is reckoned dead so he does not rule and reign in the believer’s life.
