Why did Adam need to contain both male and female?
According to the context, Adam needed to contain both male and female because sin and death entered the human race through one man, Adam, not two people. Though Eve ate first, the New Testament does not blame the woman but says Adam brought sin and death. The full explanation is deferred to the next lesson.
Les teaches that Adam was created body, soul, and spirit—a three-part entity, a copy of the Trinity—with another trinity of mind, will, and emotion. His spirit was in complete fellowship with God, his body and mind perfect. Les explains that within Adam was both male and female, and it had to be that way. He connects this to Romans 5:12, where sin entered the world by one man and death by sin, not by two people. Though Eve ate first, the New Testament places responsibility on Adam, and Paul writes to Timothy that Adam was first formed, then Eve. Les says the detailed scriptural answers for why Adam had to contain the progenitors and cell makeup of the female before she was created would be taken up next week.
