Les Feldick Bible Study

If we are children of God, does that make us heirs?

Yes. Because believers are the children of God, they are also heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. This means everything that is Christ's is equally theirs, not a mere handout. They receive these promises by faith, with the path including suffering with Him and being glorified together.

Les teaches that the text declares we are, not hope to be, the children of God. He illustrates that when wealthy parents have children, those children wait for an inheritance; that is normal and proper. So if we are children, it follows that we are heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. Being a joint heir means everything is equal; everything that is Christ's is ours, not just a little handout. This is mind-boggling, but it is part of the promises received by faith. Les also notes there is a price: if we suffer with Him, we may be glorified together with Him. He observes that American believers generally do not know intense suffering for their faith, though opposition may grow; many believers worldwide face severe persecution, with thousands losing their lives daily for their faith.

Romans 8:17

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
