Do believers lose their individuality when they become members of the body of Christ?

Believers do not lose their individuality when they become members of the body of Christ. Scripture compares the body of Christ to a human body: one body with many members. By one Spirit, every believer is baptized into that body at salvation, yet each person remains an individual, all part of the composite whole.

Les explains from 1 Corinthians 12 that the human body is used as a comparison: as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ, or the body of Christ. All believers have been brought into it and become members of it. He states plainly that we never lose our individuality, but yet we are all part of the composite. This happens by one Spirit, the Holy Spirit, at the moment of salvation. Les calls this the only true baptism of the Holy Spirit for today, not water baptism, but a work of the Holy Spirit that places every believer into the Body of Christ. He notes that if you have this baptism, your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. He also uses the analogy of a baby in the mother's womb to illustrate the relationship.

1 Corinthians 12:12

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
