What did Jesus talk about with the disciples during the forty days after His resurrection?

During the forty days after His resurrection, Jesus spoke with the disciples about the Kingdom of God—the whole sphere of God’s influence and sovereignty. Scripture says this was the one topic of conversation, and the disciples asked whether He would then restore the Kingdom to Israel.

Les explains that after the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection, He showed Himself alive to the disciples by many infallible proofs and was seen of them for forty days. During that entire period, there was really only one topic of conversation: the Kingdom of God. Les distinguishes the Kingdom of Heaven, which Matthew often mentions, from the Kingdom of God, which appears in Acts 1 and again in Acts 28. The Kingdom of God is the whole sphere of God’s influence and sovereignty—whether Heaven, outer fringes of space, hell, or earth, anything under God’s domain. Within that Kingdom of God will be the glorious Kingdom on this planet called the Kingdom of Heaven. Les uses the illustration that someone in Oklahoma is in the United States but also in Oklahoma. In verse 6, the Eleven asked whether He would at that time restore again the Kingdom to Israel, showing they were thinking of the earthly Kingdom over which their Messiah would one day rule and reign.
