What was the required price for redemption?
The required price for redemption was the blood of Christ. It had to be divine, since Jesus' Father was God, not Joseph. All have sinned, but sinners are justified freely by God's grace through that redemption—the buying back of humanity by the payment of Christ's blood.
Les explains that Paul puts the frosting on the cake regarding the price of redemption in Romans chapter 3. In verse 23, Paul concludes that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. People think they are good enough or that God will let them slip in, but He will not. Yet God did not stop there; He prepared for the coming of a Redeemer. Verse 24 says sinners are justified freely by His grace through the redemption—the whole process of buying us back. The price had to be the blood of Christ. Les notes this is unique because it was divine: Joseph was not the father of the baby Jesus; God was. The blood circulatory system always originates with the father, not the mother.
