Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did God go looking for Adam in the Garden if He already knew where he was?

God went into the Garden not because He lacked knowledge of Adam’s location, but to show that sin had separated Adam and Eve from Him. The question “Where art thou?” marked their lost condition; Adam should have answered, “We’re lost.”

Les explains that when God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden, they were His and fellowshiped with Him every day. But sin came in, and He lost them, because He could not fellowship with them in their sin. Les teaches that God had to go out into the Garden, not that He didn’t know where they were, but to show us that they were now so separated from Him. He had never had to ask “Where art thou?” before, but as soon as sin had separated them and He had lost them, He could ask, “Where are you?” Adam should have answered, “We’re lost.”
