What did the Jew know and not know about his relationship with God?

The Jew knew his covenant relationship with God and all the promises God had made to their forefathers. However, he knew nothing of a position in Christ. That truth belongs to believers’ understanding of their position in Christ, which the Jew did not comprehend.

Les explains that the Jew knew his covenant relationship and all the promises God had made to their forefathers, but he knew nothing of a position in Christ. Even for believers today, this position is hard to comprehend, yet we take it by faith. We do not necessarily feel that we are in Christ, in Heaven, but we know it because the Word says so. Emotions are fine up to a point, but they can never take the place of good biblical doctrine. On the basis of God's Word, we are in Christ, in the heavenlies, and part of everything God has been building since He began with Adam in the garden. Ephesians chapter 1 says He has already predestinated us into that position; adoption in verse 5 means He has placed us positionally as children by Jesus Christ Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, so that we would be to the praise of the glory of His grace.
