When does the world actually fall apart into chaos according to Les?
The world will not fall apart into chaos before the Lord comes; it collapses at the midpoint of the tribulation, when the sky falls and everything goes into a chaotic condition. Until then, worldwide materialistic activity continues, and people remain preoccupied with material things rather than spiritual matters.
Les explains that he cannot reckon Y2K as the event that stops the world on January 1, 2000, because all the construction, office buildings, homes, and highways point to continued activity. He says the Bible indicates that at the coming of Christ, especially as we look for the rapture, there will be worldwide economic activity, and people will be so caught up in material things that they have no interest in spiritual matters. They are making big bucks, the stock market is roaring, and they have no time for eternity. So he feels the world is not going to collapse on January 1. He does not ridicule the idea, but it does not seem to fit the situation Jesus described, with their materialistic bent and wicked activity, which depends on mobility. If people cannot travel, they will not have the same opportunity for sinfulness. Therefore, he feels that up until at least the midpoint of the tribulation, that is when the sky is going to fall and everything will go into a chaotic condition. He foresees nothing that will make the world fall apart or stop all its materialistic activity before the Lord comes.
