What does the indwelling Holy Spirit do for us?

The indwelling Holy Spirit becomes our law and guideline for Christian living—not a set of rules, but His influence and power. He is warm and loving, gives us the desire to live pleasing in God’s sight, and removes the desire to rebel and be wicked.

Les explains that the Holy Spirit in actuality becomes our Law, our guideline for Christian living. Unlike the Law, which sat in cold stone, was severe, condemned, and did nothing to help a person keep it, the indwelling Holy Spirit is warm, loving, embraces us, and cuddles us. As He does so, He gives us the desire first and foremost to live pleasing in God’s sight. He takes away the desire to be a rebel, obnoxious, and wicked. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, not me or you. The Law was perfect but powerless, like a mirror that shows what is wrong but cannot clean you; the Spirit supplies the influence and power.
