How do we have fellowship with God through the Spirit?
Fellowship with God through the Spirit happens because the Holy Spirit comes in, indwells, and regenerates the believer's spirit, then works in complete agreement with that spirit. The Spirit prompts and empowers the new nature, which controls the physical body, restoring the means of fellowship with God.
Les explains that although old Adam is still present experientially, the believer tries to keep him suppressed because the new nature is imparted by a divine act of God. The Holy Spirit indwells and regenerates the spirit, which had died in Adam, and works in complete agreement with our spirit. This restores the means of fellowship with God through the Spirit. The Spirit then influences the new nature, and the new nature controls the acts of the physical body. When we are led by the Spirit, the body agrees with God's laws that are good for society, family, and marital relationships. Les notes that humans are still going to sin.
