How do we receive the blessing of Abraham and the promise of the Spirit?

The blessing of Abraham comes on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, and the promise of the Spirit is received through faith, not through Judaism or law keeping. It is not by what we do but by simply believing the Word, the Gospel.

Les teaches that verse 14 says the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit. He emphasizes this is not through Judaism or law keeping, but through faith—simply believing the Word, the Gospel. He notes it is not what we do, but simply believing the Gospel. Then Paul writes in verse 15 that even a man's covenant, once confirmed, no one disannuls or adds to it. Les applies this to God's covenants with Abraham, David, Isaac, and the patriarchs: none of those great men could take away or add a word; it stood settled in concrete because God made it. Even after thousands of years, these covenants remain absolute—no one can annul or abridge them; they are settled forever. Verse 16 speaks of Abraham and his seed, the line of men and women who would bring us to the coming of the Messiah, and the promises were made to Abraham and his seed, not seeds plural, but as of one.
