How should you ask someone whether they are a Christian?
Instead of asking directly whether someone is a Christian, ask: 'If you were to die tonight or tomorrow, on what basis do you think God would let you into His heaven?' This is presented as the perfect way of putting it, revealing the basis of a person's hope.
Les explains that instead of just asking somebody, 'Are you a Christian?' you ask, 'If you were to die tonight or tomorrow, on what basis do you think God would let you into His heaven?' He calls this the perfect way of putting it. The question, 'On what basis do you think God should let you into His heaven?' will yield as many different answers as there are people. Some will say they are doing the best they can, keeping the commandments, joined the church, are good members, give, are good parents, or good citizens. Les notes these are things that seem right to a man, but their end is death. He contrasts this with other religions, noting that even morally good and religious people who practice prayer and read their Koran are far short in the eyes of a holy God when they rely on what seems right to men.
