How do we come to stand justified, forgiven, sanctified, and glorified before God?
We stand before God justified, forgiven, sanctified, and glorified by grace through faith in the finished work of the cross, plus nothing else. Salvation is not earned by law or legalistic demands; it comes by believing that Christ did everything needed and that the transaction is complete.
Les explains that the book of Galatians shows we are not under the system of law or any legalistic demands for salvation. Salvation is all of grace by faith plus nothing else. God's dealing with us in grace means we have to believe that He did everything that needs to be done. As soon as we try to add to that, we in actuality say Christ did not really finish it, but He did. God has let us know in His Word, especially through the writings of the Apostle Paul, that it was finished, and we stand in His presence justified, forgiven, sanctified, glorified, and all those good words, simply because we can believe that it is a finished transaction. Paul dealt with the Galatians who were going back, or being tempted to go back, under legalism, which at that time was prompted by the Jews and was circumcision. For us today circumcision is not so much the criteria, but it is all these other things people try to tell us we have to do besides believing the Gospel.
