What happened to Adam's body when he ate?

When Adam ate, the process of death immediately began in his physical body. The working of cells began to die faster than they were produced. Although it took 939 years, that bodily death process culminated in his death; he would not have had to die.

Les teaches that Adam knowingly chose to stay with Eve and ate, in violation of the Word of God. As soon as Adam ate, the process of death began in his physical being: cells began to die faster than they were produced. For Adam, it took 939 years, but then he died. He would not have had to. At the same moment, he immediately lost fellowship with his Creator, and his soul—mind, will, and emotion, his personality—immediately became a sin nature. Romans tells us sin and death came on the human race the moment Adam ate.
