What did Jesus do with the Law and its demands at the cross?

At the cross, Jesus blotted out the handwriting of ordinances against us and contrary to us. He took the Law with all its demands and legalism, removed it from the way, and nailed it to His cross. The Law was crucified with Him and became a dead system.

Les explains from Colossians 2:13-14 that Jesus blotted out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us and contrary to us, took it out of the way, and nailed it to His cross. He took the Law, all its demands, and all of legalism, and literally jerked it away and nailed it to His cross. As He hung there and was crucified for the sins of the world, the Law was crucified with Him. It is now a dead system, yet the human race constantly pulls it back out of the grave. Les compares that to fooling with something dead, which is not pretty, and says this is how we must feel about legalism. Paul is hammering home the question: why go back to that weak and beggarly stuff that has been done away with? Romans 7:4 likewise says believers have become dead to the Law.

Colossians 2:14
