Why do people try to bring the yoke of bondage back into their lifestyle?
People attempt to pull legalism back into their lives because they think they need a works-based religion to satisfy the ego. The completed work of Christ has done away with that bondage, and grace removes the ego's basis for such self-satisfaction.
Les explains that Paul writes in Galatians 5:1 for believers to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage. The allegory of Isaac and Ishmael shows Ishmael stood for the law and legalism, while Isaac pictured the freedom believers have in grace because of God's promises. Les says people will go to great lengths to somehow pull the yoke back into their lifestyle because they just think they have to have some kind of a works religion in order to satisfy the ego. But when a person is saved by grace, there is no ego.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
What do people try to do even though the yoke of bondage has been done away with?
Even though the yoke of bondage has been done away with, people still go to great lengths to pull it back into their lifestyle. They do this because they think they must have some kind of works religion to satisfy the ego, rather than resting in grace.
Has the yoke of bondage been done away with?
Yes. The yoke of bondage has been done away with. Paul writes that believers are to stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made them free, and not be entangled again with that yoke. Grace, not works religion, secures them in Christ.
