What do people try to do even though the yoke of bondage has been done away with?
Even though the yoke of bondage has been done away with, people still go to great lengths to pull it back into their lifestyle. They do this because they think they must have some kind of works religion to satisfy the ego, rather than resting in grace.
Les explains that Paul writes to believers, "stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Although the yoke of bondage has been done away with, people will go to all lengths to somehow pull it back into their lifestyle. They think they have to have some kind of works religion in order to satisfy the ego, because when you are saved by grace there is no ego. This follows the allegory of Isaac and Ishmael, where Ishmael stood for law and legalism, while Isaac pictured the freedom we have in grace because of God's promises.
