Why is all law keeping and good works for nothing before God?

Law keeping and good works cannot justify anyone before God because Scripture says that by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in His sight. The law only reveals sin; it does not provide the knowledge of salvation. Redemption comes not by legalism but through faith placed in the shed blood of Calvary.

Les explains that all law keeping, all good works, and all legalism will be for nothing, because by the deeds of the law no flesh shall be justified in God's sight. Such deeds may be good enough in man's sight, but they will never cut it under the scrutinizing eyes of the Lord Jesus. The law cannot give the knowledge of salvation; it only gives the knowledge of sin, showing mankind its sinfulness. Les also warns that Satan has counterfeited the issue, convincing millions or billions that if they do the best they can, or keep the law as much as possible, somehow they will make it. But the book says they are never going to make it that way. Redemption must be experienced through faith placed in the shed blood of Calvary.

Romans 3:20

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
