Why do we go to Paul's letters instead of Christ's earthly ministry today?

Believers turn to Paul's letters because Christ's earthly ministry is part of the past, like the Old Testament economy, and those who heard it had no concept of the gospel of grace based on His death, burial, and resurrection. Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, now provides the writings where preaching power resides.

Les explains that Christ's earthly ministry has faded off the scene; it belonged to a past economy, just as the Old Testament did. The people of that ministry had no understanding of a gospel of grace built on His death, burial, and resurrection, and there is no power in this now. Les teaches that we must come into the letters and writings of Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles. In Galatians 4:5, Christ was made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that the whole world might receive adoption as sons. Romans 3:23 confirms all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
